How to add a clicker to a geiger counter?
I have an old CDV-700 Geiger counter. Since I use it mainly for demonstration, I would really like to add a piezo buzzer (radio shack #273-080) so that each click can be heard without headphones. How should I go about doing this? If needed, it can be on its own circuit but ideally, i would want it on the counter's circuit. I can post the counter's circuit diagram if anybody wants to look at it.
Answer:
mark is correct. However, I have the schematic also, for the Electro-Neutronics model (the CDV700 was made by a number of companies for the US Gov). I'm assuming the schematics are all the same.
You can put an emitter follower, with a 2N2222 or equivalent, in series with CR2. You will just need the transistor and a 1k resistor. That will step up the current drive by about 10 to 100 times. That should drive a small speaker directly.
